*Yes, I know I'm nearly 2 months off...oh well :)
Again with the phone calls...Just one day after Nathan got the phone call about his cancer and the need for more surgery, he got another phone call asking him to pitch in Cole's baseball game. He didn't even hesitate for a second and agreed to do it.
What?! Dude, you just had major surgery less than 2 weeks ago! He knew it would be hard on him but, he also knew that it might very well be his last chance to help with Cole's baseball team before the end of the season.
He had to do batting practice for an hour before the game...in the blazing sun...to allow the kids to get accustomed to his pitching. That wasn't a good idea AT ALL. It was easy for me to see that he was exhausted when Brooke and I got there shortly before the game started. He was overheated, light headed, and sick to his stomach but, did that stop him from pitching the entire game? Of course not. He actually pitched so well that nobody realized how awful he felt the entire time.
I don't remember the final score but, our kids did really well and completely blew out the other team. The head coach's wife suggested that Nathan pitch more often...Little did she know that his world had just been turned upside down. At least the game was a brief distraction from it all.
Cole got to play third base for part of the game and shockingly did really well.
Even though Cole never said anything, I think he was really proud to have his daddy out there...As he should be!
